ACDC was organized in the 1970s to attract business into the county.  Since 1995, ACDC has been supported by a 1/4 cent sales tax that provides an office and staff fully devoted to economic development activities.  Over the years, ACDC has been involved in:

  • Water infrastructure programs - such as the lift station at Community Hospital Fairfax.
  • GIS mapping over water, sewer, and utilities throughout the county.
  • Business infrastructure improvements such as moving utilities for Dollar General.
  • Two community renewal projects.
  • Providing funding for a feasibility study to establish the Atchison County Wholesale Water Commission.
  • Establishing incentives like the Enhanced Enterprise Zone (EEZ) and  Tax Increment Financing (TIF).

Today, ACDC works to improve the economic development opportunities in Atchison County by enhancing the stability of our business climate.  ACDC assists entrepreneurial companies, responds to inquiries, and develops incentives for doing business with Atchison County.

Additionally, ACDC supports the county by promoting local businesses and by providing education and resources for owners and employees.  For new businesses in Atchison County, ACDC offers resources, assesses needs, and refers individuals to the most appropriate expert for University Extension, Small Business Administration, or another quality resource.  ACDC contracts specifically with Northwest Missouri Enterprise Facilitation for individualized assistance.

ACDC provides staff and financial support for local efforts such as Tarkio Renewal, Restore Rock Port, and Atchison County Wholesale Water Commission.  ACDC staff participates in local groups, like Tarkio Chamber and Rock Port Chamber, and regional economic and community development groups like Northwest Roundtable of Economic Developers, Leadership Northwest Missouri, Pony Express Tourism Commission and the Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments.

Staff

  • Monica M. Bailey, Executive Director  Monica (Martin) Bailey was hired in March of 2010 as ACDC's Project Coordinator.  A native or Tarkio, Monica holds a bachelor's degree and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Missouri.  Her community development background includes strategic planning/visioning, asset mapping, project management, event coordination, regional chamber of commerce management and communications.  In May of 2011, Monica was named ACDC's Executive Director and currently manages all aspects of organizational operations.  In seeking to promote economic and community development of Atchison County, Monica primarily focuses on business recruitment, business retention and expansion of community pride.
  • Beth Corken, Administrative Assistant Beth (Pearson) Corken became ACDC's Administrative Assistant in May of 2011.  A native of Tarkio/northern Atchison County, Beth graduated from Dana College in 2005 with a degree in Biology and Education, and taught high school science for 4 years.  Her previous administrative positions provided the foundation for handling ACDC's routine bookkeeping responsibilities and providing primary customer service.
