Rock Port (pop. 1395), home to the county seat, is located just off I-29. This beautiful town is situated in the midst of the Missouri River Bluffs and is the first community in the nation capable of being 100% wind-powered. Rock Port boasts a bustling Main Street that includes the Atchison County Memorial Building and Walk of Honor, a tribute to area veterans. Rock Port R-II (K-12) is home to the Blue Jays. Atchison County Mail is the newspaper that covers Rock Port and its surrounding communitites. Active Groups in Rock Port include the Chamber of Commerce and Rock Port Rotary.
In 2010, Rock Port formed a group dedicated to the aesthetic and overall betterment of the community. Restore Rock Port relies entirely on donations to carry out their mission.
