Rock Port, population approximately 1300, is home to the county seat and is located just off Interstate 29. This beautiful town is situated in the midst of the Missouri River Bluffs. Rock Port boasts a bustling Main Street with antique shops and the beautiful Atchison County Memorial Building. Businesses in Rock Port include Browns Agri-Service, Missouri Valley Agri-Service, Rock Port Telephone, Midwest Data Inc. and Atchison-Holt Electric. Rock Port R-II (Kindergarten through 12th Grade) is also located in Rock Port, Missouri.
Atchison County Memorial Building Tarkio, population approximately 1900, is located at the intersection of Hwy. 59 and Hwy. 136 just seven miles off of I-29. Tarkio is home to the beautiful Tarkio College Campus and Heartland Recreation Center, a facility featuring a mid-Olympic sized pool, an elevated indoor track, two weight rooms and much more. Tarkio also hosts a number of historic mansions that are a must see! Tarkio R-1, pre-school through 12th grade, is also located in the center of town.
Tarkio College Campus Fairfax, population approximately 600, is located on Hwy 59 in the western portion of the County. Fairfax is home to the Community Hospital Association, one of Atchison County's biggest employers. Fairfax also has a wonderful city park in the middle of town where the widely acclaimed Fairfax Fair takes place each year. Fairfax is also home to the Bulldogs, Fairfax R-III, a Kindergarten through 12th grade school.
